Gooseberry

Emily and I got to go to Gooseberry on Wednesday, September 10th through Thursday, September 11th. Gooseberry is located in Salina Canyon near Richfield by Fish Lake National Forest. The third graders (from Piute County and Richfield) get to campout here every year (except of course the year Jason was in third grade). The Forest Service provides cabins and mini classes for the kids. They learn about forestry, ecology, biology, mapping, archeology, fire safety, and animals. We went on a few little hikes and Emily even tried on a wildfire fireman's uniform. We absolutely nearly froze to death and it drizzled occasionally on us - but regardless, we had a great time!!

On Wednesday night, the leaders told a ghost story about Annie Bangs. There was no light but the campfire and by the end of the story every third grader there was scared out of their mind. After a few minutes "Annie Bangs" started running through the crowd. Emily, and a number of other kids, were crying and screaming. I guess one good thing came out of it - Emily didn't leave my side for the rest of the night! She wouldn't even go to the bathroom with a friend!

It was a fun few days for me and Emily. The other girls cannot wait to go Gooseberry and Jason often reminds us that he was "jipped".

Yeah, I'm not quite sure why they tell that Annie Bangs story to a bunch of 8 year olds! I was worried Mikaela would want to come home that night, but she did Ok.
